1479 BC – 1458 BCHatshepsut -- the female pharaohHatshepsut (c.1479-1458 BC) is the most successful female pharaoh in Egyptian history -- one who reigned not as regent but as full pharaoh, wearing the double crown and the false beard. She builds the mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahri, erects two massive obelisks at Karnak and leads a famous trading expedition to the Land of Punt. After her death, her successor Thutmose III erases her from the historical record. Her identity is not recovered until the 20th century.
