1874First Spanish Republic fallsGeneral Martinez Campos declares Alfonso XII kingGeneral Arsenio Martinez Campos led a military pronunciamiento at Sagunto proclaiming Alfonso XII, son of the deposed Isabella II, as King of Spain. The move ended the short-lived First Spanish Republic and began the Bourbon Restoration. Alfonso returned from exile and entered Madrid in January 1875.
