1904British Expedition to TibetYounghusband mission forces the Convention of LhasaA British military expedition under Francis Younghusband invaded Tibet to counter perceived Russian influence, fighting through battles including Guru and Gyantse on the route to Lhasa. The campaign ended in September 1904 with the Dalai Lama's flight and the forced signing of the Convention of Lhasa. Thousands of poorly armed Tibetan soldiers were killed by modern British firepower.
