1841 – 1909Itō Hirobumi (1841-1909)Died 26 October 1909, aged 68Itō Hirobumi was Japan's first Prime Minister and the principal architect of the Meiji Constitution, later serving as Resident-General of Korea. He was assassinated by Korean independence activist An Jung-geun at Harbin railway station on 26 October 1909. His death intensified tensions ahead of Japan's annexation of Korea the following year.
