1847 – 1911Joseph Pulitzer (1847-1911)Died 29 October 1911, aged 64Pulitzer was a Hungarian-American newspaper publisher who built the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and New York World into major papers and pioneered sensational "yellow journalism." His will endowed the Columbia School of Journalism and the Pulitzer Prizes. He died aboard his yacht off Charleston, South Carolina.
1911Wuchang UprisingMutiny sparks the Xinhai Revolution against the Qing dynastyRepublican soldiers in the New Army mutinied in Wuchang, Hubei province, on 10 October 1911. The uprising triggered a nationwide revolt that ended over two thousand years of imperial rule in China. Within months provincial assemblies declared independence from the Qing court.
