1929Tolkien converts C.S. Lewis to ChristianityIn a long nocturnal conversation on Addison's Walk in Oxford on 19–20 September 1931, Tolkien and Hugo Dyson convince C.S. Lewis that Christianity is not a myth but rather the myth that is also true — the one story that really happened. Lewis converts to Christianity within days, to Anglicanism rather than Tolkien's Catholicism. The conversion is one of the great intellectual friendships bearing fruit: Lewis goes on to write Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters and the Chronicles of Narnia. Tolkien's concept of myth as a vehicle for truth — directly expressed in his poem 'Mythopoeia' — is the seed of Lewis's faith.
