1869 – 1951André Gide (1869-1951)Died 19 February 1951, aged 81Gide was a French author awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1947 for his wide-ranging and psychologically probing body of work. His writing, including The Immoralist and The Counterfeiters, explored themes of personal freedom, morality, and sexuality that were controversial in his lifetime. He died in Paris.
