1960 – 1968Rod Liddle born in SidcupRod Liddle is born on 1 April 1960 in Sidcup, Kent, in south-east London. His father is a civil servant in the Inland Revenue; his mother is from working-class Bermondsey. The family are strongly Labour and traditional -- his fathers side are stewards in the Methodist church. For the first eight years of his life Rod lives in Abbey Wood and Bexleyheath. In 1968 the family moves north to Nunthorpe, a suburb of Middlesbrough, where his father has been posted. The move splits his accent permanently between north and south.
