1974Founds Arista RecordsDavis founds Arista Records in November 1974 — named after the honour society at his alma mater, DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. Arista is distributed by Columbia (Davis's former employer, now obliged to work with him). With no roster and a small budget, Davis builds Arista from scratch into one of the most commercially successful independent labels of the 1970s and 1980s.
