1985Trial of the JuntasArgentina prosecutes former military rulers for atrocitiesArgentina put the leaders of its former military juntas on trial for human rights abuses committed during the 1976-1983 Dirty War, with proceedings running from 22 April to 9 December 1985. Five of the nine former commanders, including junta leader Jorge Videla, were convicted. It was one of the first times a Latin American government tried its own former rulers for state terrorism.
