• 2001 AOL Time Warner merger completed Internet provider absorbs a media giant The merger of America Online and Time Warner, announced in 2000, formally closed on 11 January 2001 in a deal valued at around 165 billion dollars. Promoted as the union of old and new media, it lost most of its value as the dot-com bubble burst. It is often cited as one of the worst corporate mergers in history.
