1868 – 1927Constance Markievicz (1868-1927)Died 15 July 1927, aged 59Constance Markievicz was an Irish revolutionary and a commander in the 1916 Easter Rising. In 1918 she became the first woman elected to the British House of Commons, though she did not take her seat. She was later one of the first women in the world to hold a cabinet post.
1927July Revolt in ViennaRioters burn the Palace of JusticeRight-wing paramilitaries were acquitted of killing two people at Schattendorf, and workers in Vienna rioted in protest. Crowds set fire to the Palace of Justice. Police fired on the protesters and killed 89 people, which deepened the political divide in the First Austrian Republic.
